Question 1

How does this decide how much data I need?

Accepted Answer

From the trip length and how you describe your data use: light is about 1-3GB a week (maps, messaging, the odd photo), normal is about 5-10GB a week (streaming music, video calls home), heavy is about 15-20GB+ a week (daily video, working online). Multiply that by your trip length and match it to the closest real plan size actually on sale - not always rounded up, since a slightly smaller plan is often a much closer fit than jumping to the next size up.

Question 2

What if I'm visiting more than one country?

Accepted Answer

Add every stop and it checks for a single regional bundle that covers all of them - usually cheaper and simpler than buying separately, so that's what it recommends when one exists. If nothing covers every stop on your list, it recommends the best plan for each country instead, rather than forcing a bundle that leaves somewhere out.

Question 3

Is the recommended plan my only option?

Accepted Answer

No - it's a starting point, not the only size on offer. "See details" on any result takes you straight to that destination's own plan page, where every duration and data size actually sold is laid out if you'd rather pick a specific one yourself.

Question 4

When does my plan actually start?

Accepted Answer

Check the "About this eSIM" panel before you buy - most plans start the first moment your phone connects to a network at your destination, so it's fine to buy in January for a June trip and it'll sit there untouched until you land. A handful of plans instead start the moment you install the eSIM profile, so for those, install right before you fly rather than weeks ahead.

Question 5

How early can I sort this out?

Accepted Answer

Up to 180 days before you go. Get it done the day you book flights, then install it on your device whenever you're ready - just make sure that's within 180 days of buying, since an eSIM that's never installed or connected expires after that.

Question 6

How soon does my eSIM work?

Accepted Answer

The QR code is emailed within about a minute of paying. Install it over Wi-Fi before you fly - it's ready to go as soon as it's installed and you're in a destination it covers.

Question 7

Why isn't it unlimited?

Accepted Answer

Because "unlimited" usually isn't. Plenty of eSIMs advertise unlimited data, then quietly throttle your speed once you cross a hidden fair-use limit buried in the fine print. We'd rather give you an honest GB number than one that sounds bigger and slows down exactly when you need it - full network speed for every gigabyte, no hidden cap, no slowdown.

Question 8

Can I keep my own number?

Accepted Answer

Yes - this eSIM is data only, it doesn't handle calls or texts. Your normal SIM stays in your phone for that, but for actually chatting overseas we'd recommend WhatsApp, Messenger, FaceTime or similar over the eSIM's data instead - usually far cheaper than your home carrier's international rates. Still want calls or texts on your normal line? Just switch off its data roaming, not the line itself, so your carrier can't sting you for data. Don't need calls or texts at all while you're away? Turn that line's roaming off completely instead.

Question 9

What if I run out of data?

Accepted Answer

No dramas - your confirmation email has a link to top up the eSIM you've already got installed, no new QR code needed. Lost that email? Email support@sweetassim.co.nz and we'll send your top-up link again - or just buy a fresh eSIM for the same destination if that's easier.

Question 10

Can I top up an eSIM that's already expired?

Accepted Answer

No - once an eSIM's validity window has ended, it can't be topped up any more. Buy a fresh eSIM for the same destination to keep going.

Question 11

My trip's running longer than my plan - can I extend it?

Accepted Answer

Yes - top up before your current plan's window ends and you're not just adding data, you're adding time. Each top-up pack comes with its own validity (its own number of days) on top of its own data, so it extends how long you're connected on the same eSIM rather than just topping up the GB. The one catch is timing: it has to happen before your existing plan expires, since an already-expired eSIM can't be topped up (see above) - so if you know a trip's likely to run long, top up a few days before your plan's window is due to end rather than waiting until the last moment.

Question 12

Do unused days roll over?

Accepted Answer

No. Each plan runs out at the end of its window, so if you're not sure how much you need, start small and buy again.

Question 13

Which countries does a bundle cover?

Accepted Answer

Every bundle lists its exact country set on the plan page. Coverage comes straight from the provider catalogue, so it updates the moment they add somewhere new.
